In the year 1980 Mr Suman Kumar Lunia along with his father, Late Shri Rekhchand Ji Lunia, entered the trading industry with a humble enterprise. They started with industrial supplies to commercial enterprises in Eastern India right from steel pipes, pipe fittings, hand gloves, broom sticks, welding electrodes, nut & bolts & structural steel products. After working really hard for 10 years in this industry, in the year 1990 they could set up their official base at 21, Synagouge Street, Kolkata – 700001 and shifted to the organized sector.
However, within a few years he realized that the industrial supply line is getting affected due to weak demand. Judging the need of the hour, in 2003 he purchased a retail shop at Gupta Mansion Market, Shop no 45 under the flagship brand of BALAJI wherein he concentrated on industrial grade stainless steel pipes, pipe fittings & valves. As destiny would have it, this same year Mr Suman Kr Lunia lost his father which led to an emotional setback.
In the year 2008 Mr Hemant Lunia, the elder son of Mr.Suman Kumar Lunia, started taking active participation in the family business. A young mind-set with a zealous fervour and enthusiasm to create an impact on the market, the next big leap was taken under the leadership of the young blood. He studied the market and realized that there was a lack of good quality supply. He then started chain of import of goods from China & Taiwan for stainless steel pipe fittings & ball valves. As the first cargo arrived, he started radical marketing of the products at Pan India level. He kept researching the market more deeply and identified the untapped business opportunities and contingencies while learning about stainless steel, the revolutionary alloy.
In the year 2005, Mr Hemant Lunia took charge of the company, restructured it and changed the name to BALAJI NIRYAAT PVT LTD, and under the guidance of his father started handling the business in a more organized way. He analysed the market of Eastern India was still not explored to its capacity, and he started importing stainless steel seamless pipes & coils and parallely became official suppliers for Jindal Steel. He planned to tap in the freight difference & on- time supply and started conserving the stock to reduce the lead time of the goods to “0”. This was a big game changer for the East India stainless steel market as demand started picking up. As per saying “God help those who help themselves”, Jindal Steel also started ramping up their facility in Jajpur, Orissa to cater to this market. Infact, looking at the newly generated demand of quality products in this market, Jindal Steel planned on enhancing their production upto 3 times of their Hissar Plant.
